Donald Ramanayake

Donald Ramanayake was a painter of the island’s landscape and life, working in watercolour and oil. His village scenes and wildlife studies, among them a drummer of 1945 and the deer of Yala, belong to the romantic, observational tradition of the middle century.

He learned from David Paynter and from his teacher Alexander Sofronoff, and worked alongside G.S. Fernando at the Times of Ceylon. He died in 1993.
