Nelun Harasgama
Nelun Harasgama has painted, since the 1980s, in a register of sombre restraint unusual in Sri Lankan art. Her work runs to minimal, often near-white surfaces given to themes of suffering, waiting and quiet endurance, as in the oil Waiting Long.
She has shown at the Barefoot Gallery in Colombo, in exhibitions such as Walking on the Water and A Division of Ideas. Where much painting of her time reached for colour and incident, hers holds to stillness and a spare, meditative mood.
