How to cite this site

What each page carries

Each piece is signed. The author of record is named on the page itself rather than left to the site as a whole, and where a text has been revised by another hand, the reviser is named beside the date of the revision. Each page also carries the date it was published and the address at which it will continue to be found.

The elements, in the order most styles want them

House styles differ, and the order moves to suit whichever is in use. The elements themselves are what matter: the author, surname first; the title of the piece in single quotation marks; the name of the publication; the date; and the permanent address.

Author

As named on the page. Where a reviser is also named, follow the convention of the style in use for a revised text.

Title

The title of the article or the artist entry, in single quotation marks.

Publication

The Talwatte Collection.

Date

The date of publication, given day, month, year. Where a piece has been revised, give the date of the revision, since that is the text you read.

Address

The permanent address of the page. Entries are revised in place and keep their address, so a reference made today continues to resolve.

Quoting and reuse

Quotation with attribution needs no permission, and neither does linking to any page here. Reproduction of a whole piece, or of the photography, does. Where an object is held elsewhere, the holding institution is named in the caption and its own terms apply to the image.
